"The Future of the World is in my classroom today"

My School & Students
My school has a special perk of being located across the street from the University of Alabama. The university creates a diverse population that allows students to experience cultures from all over the world. We showcase our diversity with our annual 'Magic Fest' where families create booths to showcase their cultures. As an International Baccalaureate (I.B,) school, our curriculum is focused around creating the global student; one who take risks, inquirers, empathizes, and is confident. In addition to our I.B. program, our school is a magnet school. Students from all over the district travel to my school to receive gifted education that is rigorous and taught in a trans-disciplinary fashion. Each week students go to Spanish, music, art, gym, and gifted. During the fall and spring, students also enjoy going to our school's garden where we grow and sell a variety of vegetables.
Classroom Layout
The classroom is our home away from home for both teacher and students. I create a classroom environment that is comfortable and welcoming to all students. Upon entering the room you'll see a door mat and sign stating "All are Welcome Here" sending the message that no matter your background or experiences, you have a place in our room. I use lamps and calming music consistently during the school day to create a welcoming and peaceful environment. With a passion for geography, I decorate the classroom with flags, maps, and landmarks from all over the world. By decorating this way, students are composed to cultures and locations that are beyond Alabama.
