The NetherlandsDuring my time at Michigan State, I studied abroad through the College of Education to the Netherlands. While in the Netherlands, I taught and observed in general and special education schools; in addition I spent time in international schools in Amsterdam and Aachen, Germany. My most rewarding experience was helping to create an informational video for a refugee school in an effort to help the school receive more funding. During my time in the Netherlands I kept a video log on my experiences with the Dutch school system and technology usage. Below is a link to my website chronicling my experience.

Spain
Teaching in Spain was an adventure on La Granja (The farm!) About 45 minutes from the center of Madrid is a teaching farm where students go for a few weeks at a time to learn English and other skills. I taught mainly second grade students but worked with Kindergarten through eighth grade students during my time in Spain. Through fun crafts, hikes, horseback riding, and caring for the many animals on the farm, I taught students English and problem solving skills. My time in Spain taught me how to be quick on my feet and how to persevere in challenging situations. I took a leap of faith by traveling to Spain on my own and committing to work in an environment where I was the only one who spoke English. Through this challenge, I grew so much as an educator and as a person.

Michigan
As a student teacher, I taught Kindergarten in Walled Lake, Michigan. I worked collaborative with my mentor teacher for the entire school year and led math and reading intervention groups with first through fifth grade classrooms after my official internship ended with the Michigan State academic school calendar. During this time I designed science, social studies, and writing units. In addition, I co-taught the school's environment team and led school-wide drives to support recycling efforts in the community. I loved getting my students outside to learn through authentic experiences! In the photo on the left, students are investigating push and pull on the playground.

Currently...Alabama
I moved to Alabama in July 2018 after I married my husband who is working on a PhD at the University of Alabama. I teach third grade at Tuscaloosa Magnet School - Elementary. Our schools' International Baccalaureate program guides instruction and student inquiry. I love teaching my students about cultures and places all over the world. We have a focus country of the week where students investigate and research the chosen country. Students learn through trans-disciplinary teaching and are able to guide their own learning through enrichment projects. I use our school garden and community members to enhance learning opportunities.
